Setting the paging file

Recommended paging file sizes

We recommend the following paging file sizes:

  • If you have less than 4 GB of RAM — 8192 MB by 8192 MB;
  • If you have 4 GB of RAM — 8192 MB to 8192 MB;
  • If you have 8 GB of RAM — 8192 MB by 8192 MB
  • If you have 16 GB of RAM — 4096 MB by 4096 MB;
  • If you have 32 GB of RAM — 4096 MB by 4096 MB;
  • If you have 64 GB of RAM — 4096 MB by 4096 MB.

Remember that you are entitled to rely on the value recommended by the operating system.


Setting the paging file in Windows 11

1. Open the “Start” menu and go to “Settings” for Windows 11.

2. The “System” category will open immediately. Go to the section entitled “About”.

3. In the “Device specifications” section, press the “Advanced system settings” button.

4. The “System properties” window will appear. In the “Performance” section, press the “Settings” button.

5. A new window will appear. Open the “Advanced” tab and press the “Change” button.

6. Uncheck the “Automatically manage paging file size for all the drivers” option.

7. Select “Custom size” and enter the same megabyte value in both fields.

8. Press the “Set” button and then “OK”. Reboot your computer to apply the changes.
